On August 13-14, 2024, the Department of Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences at Duke University partnered with the Duke BOOST (Building Opportunities and Overtures in Science and Technology) program to host a transformative Science Immersion event.
Engaging youth from underrepresented populations in STEM/Healthcare projects:
- Partnering with the Duke BOOST Program (Building Opportunities and Overtures in Science and Technology). Our faculty, residents and staff provide educational content for the Duke BOOST curriculum, including educational videos and presentations at Science Saturday events.
- Mary Ann Black Summer Internship: 2022 presenters include Jamila Mingha, PhD, CCC-SLP and Harley Walter, CMA.
- Duke FEMMES+ (Females and Allies Excelling More in Math, Engineering and Science). HNS&CS Assistant Professor Janet Lee, MD, residents Alex Belcastro, MD, Billy Reed, MD and medical student Tara Thomason taught kids about hearing as well as how to suture, tie surgical knots, and use a flexible laryngoscope as part of the FEMMES+ Capstone program
