On March 2, 2025, Dr. Trinitia Cannon, a head and neck surgical oncologist and a professor at the Duke Department of Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences (HNS&CS), was an invited speaker at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School. The event, organized by the Academy of Biomedical Science, marked the beginning of an ongoing collaboration aimed at inspiring and guiding students towards careers in science and healthcare.

Dr. Cannon dedicated three hours of her morning to engage with the students, sharing her own career journey and the various opportunities available in the fields of science and healthcare. Her discussions were not only informative but also motivational, as she emphasized the importance of diversity in these fields and encouraged students to pursue their passions despite any obstacles they might face.

The event was a significant step in fostering a supportive environment for students who might not have considered careers in science and healthcare. By providing insights into her professional experiences and the pathways available, Dr. Cannon aimed to demystify these fields and make them more accessible to all students.

The collaboration with Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School is expected to continue, offering more opportunities for students to learn from and interact with professionals in the field.

Dr. Cannon's visit was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on the students and setting the stage for future events that will continue to inspire and educate the next generation of scientists and healthcare professionals.
