The Duke Department of Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences has two separate match codes for our residency programs: one for a 5-year track and one for an NIH R25 surgeon scientist track.
We strive to be a premiere academic otolaryngology program through compassionate and extraordinary patient care, critical investigation of head and neck disease, and excellence in education.
Our faculty provide breadth and depth in clinical and research training enhanced by the wide variety and volume of experience offered by other faculty at Duke University Medical Center and its affiliated institutions. The faculty's commitment to resident education encompasses the necessary components of teaching, independent responsibility, and learning through observation and direct supervision.

5-Year Track Program Structure
The five-year residency program consists of four-and-a-half years of OHNS training and six months of related disciplines. Our program offers a wide exposure in benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck, neurotologic surgery, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, maxillofacial trauma, sinus surgery, pediatric otolaryngology, and the broad scope of general otolaryngology surgical procedures. Participation in research is required throughout the residency.
