The faculty and staff of Duke Health Integrated Practice (DHIP) have renewed their partnership with Project Access of Durham County, reaffirming their annual commitment to providing charitable specialty care to uninsured and underinsured residents of Durham County. Benjamin Pierce, PA-C, from Duke Otolaryngology, (which is the clinical side of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences) is also participating in this initiative.
Mr. Pierce began his involvement with Project Access in July 2018. He assumed the role of department contact for the Project Access program following a colleague’s transition to a new position. Mr. Pierce embraced this role to ensure that uninsured or underinsured patients could access the specialty care provided by physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs), and other professionals of Duke Otolaryngology.
Patients referred to the department by their primary care providers are seen by Mr. Pierce at the Duke Otolaryngology and Oral Surgery Clinic 1F, where he diagnoses and manages their conditions. If a patient requires more advanced medical or surgical management, he refers them to one of the physician specialists within Duke.
“My participation in Project Access allows me to share the services and care provided by Duke Otolaryngology with members of the Durham community who might otherwise be unable to seek specialty care. I believe this partnership is valuable and underscores our department’s commitment to serving all community members,” said Mr. Pierce.
This program represents the extension of Duke’s resources to the Durham community. To schedule an appointment with Duke Otolaryngology, visit this site or call 919-813-6367.
