Duke Voice Care Center participates in NC State’s Queer and Trans Health Fair

On March 19th, Annika Wilson, CCC-SLP, MS, and SLP student Ryan Downey from Duke Voice Care Center took part in NC State’s Queer and Trans Health Fair. Their participation was part of an ongoing effort to bring awareness of Duke’s gender-affirming voice care services to Raleigh and the surrounding areas.

Organized by the LGBTQ Pride Center, this fair was one of many events held to celebrate LGBTQ Health Awareness Week. The fair aimed to raise awareness and provide resources for the health and well-being of the LGBTQ community.

Duke Voice Care Center offers gender-affirming voice care through Duke Health voice therapists who are specially trained to provide evaluations and interventions for transgender and gender-diverse individuals seeking to modify their voice. This includes those experiencing vocal dysphoria, which is the displeasure with one's voice and/or how it is perceived by others.

By creating personalized care plans, Duke Voice Care Center helps patients optimize various aspects of their vocal expression, including pitch, intonation, resonance, nonverbal communication, and more. These tailored plans are designed to meet the unique needs of each patient, ensuring they achieve their desired vocal outcomes.

Through their participation in events like the Queer and Trans Health Fair, Duke Voice Care Center continues to support and advocate for the health and well-being of the LGBTQ community, ensuring access to specialized voice care services.

Voice therapy sessions are available both in person and through virtual video visits, providing flexible options for patients. To make an appointment, call 919-684-3834.
