Kristal Riska, PhD., Awarded Funding for "Identifying Mechanisms Between Hearing Loss and Falls."

Duke University's Department of Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences is thrilled to announce that Dr. Kristal Riska, AuD, PhD., has been awarded a R01 from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for her research, "Identifying Mechanisms Between Hearing Loss and Falls."

The research project aims to unravel the intricate connections between hearing loss and falls and in particular understand the explanatory role vestibular function, cognition, and pysho-social factors have on the association. This support from the NIH recognizes the importance of Dr. Riska's work and will enable her and her team to delve into the underlying factors contributing to falls among individuals with hearing loss.

The findings from this study hold great promise for developing targeted interventions and preventive strategies to enhance the lives of those with hearing loss.
