Dr. Eileen Raynor Receives WIO Endowment Grant for Women in Medicine Leadership Program

Dr. Eileen Raynor, Division Chief of Pediatric Otolaryngology, has received a WIO Endowment grant for her project "SLAM-DUNC Women in Medicine Program."

The purpose of this award is to honor individuals for superlative accomplishment and service in the area of Medical School or Medical Center teaching. Those selected as nominees are shown to have made an astounding commitment to teaching “above and beyond” normal expectations in teaching at Duke.

Dr. Raynor teamed up with Dr. Amelia Drake from the University of North Carolina to utilize this grant for a leadership training program targeted for Otolaryngology residents and faculty, specifically women. This program will include 4 evening seminars in the Fall of 2020 and Fall of 2021 with each institution hosting 2 of them. These seminars will focus on topics such as negotiation, experiences in medicine as women, networking, time-management and efficacy, work-life integration, interviewing skills, mentorship, and effective communication.

“This is a collaborative grant between Duke and UNC that demonstrates the spirit of cooperation,” says Dr. Raynor. “It’s important for people within the field to learn these leadership skills as early as they can.”
