What were you looking for in a residency program?

First and foremost, I wanted a program that would train me to be an excellent clinician and surgeon. I also wanted exposure to all subspecialties within otolaryngology and access to excellent mentors in each of those fields. Finally, I wanted a community of residents, faculty and staff that I enjoyed working with on a daily basis.

What advice do you have for incoming interns?

  • In the hospital: Work hard, be humble, treat your co-interns well, ask for (and listen to) feedback, recognize that you have something to learn from everyone you encounter in the hospital.
  • At home: Invest in your personal relationships, maintain your hobbies, involve yourself in your community outside the hospital.
