The annual Otolaryngology Emergency Skills Simulation Course, held every July, is designed for PGY1 and PGY2 residents. This course is hosted by the Department of Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences and covers essential skills such as cricothyrotomy and tracheostomy procedures, flexible bronchoscopy, PEG tube placement, and suturing complex defects.
The course also includes sessions on effective communication, managing complex scenarios, and handling common nighttime phone calls. Residents from multiple states join Duke Otolaryngology residents, fostering a multidisciplinary environment that enhances the learning experience.
This year otolaryngology residents from Duke Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences Department, Duke Department of Emergency Medicine, UNC Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery Residency Program, Emory Department of Otolaryngology, Wake Forest University, and Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University attended the course.
