The 2025 Duke Otolaryngology Emergency Skills Simulation Course welcomed PGY1 and PGY2 residents from Duke University and other academic institutions across the Southeast.
Held annually in July, the course offers intensive, hands-on training in emergency procedures critical to otolaryngologic care, including cricothyrotomy, tracheostomy, flexible laryngoscopy and bronchoscopy, PE tube placement, and advanced suturing techniques. It also incorporates scenario-based exercises to practice effective communication and decision-making in emergency situations.
This year’s cohort included residents from UNC Chapel Hill, Wake Forest University, Emory University, and the Medical College of Georgia. The course continues to serve as a cornerstone of early surgical education, fostering collaboration and skill development among emerging otolaryngologists.
Hosted by the Department of Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences at Duke, the program reflects a commitment to excellence in clinical training and regional partnership.
