On Saturday, April 13th, a team from HNS&CS participated in the 10th annual Women’s Health Awareness Day at Hillside High School, organized by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.
This annual Women’s Health Awareness event focuses on providing resources and screenings to women in Durham, North Carolina, with a goal to bring attention to themselves. Since most women are caretakers, they often neglect their own health concerns to focus more on their families.
Dr. Trinita Cannon, a head and neck oncologist, provided screenings for head and neck cancer and also gave an educational presentation about cancer causes and treatments titled: “Oral, Thyroid, and Lung Cancer: Early Detection and Prevention”.
The event was well-attended, and we want to thank Melissa White, MS3; Katherine Gonzales, MS3; and Leda Scearce, Clinical Singing Voice Specialist, Director of Community Engagement, and Director of Performing Voice Programs and Development at Duke Voice Care Center, for their participation.
