
On February 1, Leda Scearce, CCC-SLP, MM, MS, a speech-language pathologist and clinical voice specialist from Duke Voice Care Center, conducted a comprehensive 4-hour workshop on vocal health, hosted by the Alamance Chorale of Elon, NC. The event attracted over 70 choral singers who were eager to enhance their understanding of vocal care.
During the workshop, attendees gained insights into voice anatomy and physiology, explored various voice problems that vocal athletes may encounter, and learned about the latest evaluation and treatment methods. The session also provided in-depth information on preventing voice issues and maintaining vocal health.
Additionally, the presentation addressed the impact of aging on the voice and offered practical strategies for supporting a lifetime of singing. This interactive workshop allowed participants to practice vocal techniques and incorporate specific exercises into their regular vocal routines, ensuring they left with valuable knowledge and actionable steps to keep their voices in optimal condition.
