Duke Voice Care Center Team attends Queer and Trans Health Fair

By Aleksandra Zabiran

On Thursday, March 18th, Audrey Walstrom, DMA, MA, CCC-SLP, who is a Clinical Singing Voice Specialist & Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) at Duke Voice Care Center, and Kathryn Strickler, a graduate SLP intern, attended the Queer and Trans Health Fair at NC State University.

This event was organized by NC State’s LGBTQ Pride Center, which serves students of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions. The health fair provided resources and access to local health and wellness providers.

Duke Health voice therapists are specially trained to offer evaluations and interventions for transgender and gender-diverse individuals who want to modify their voice. This includes people who experience vocal dysphoria—displeasure with their voice and/or how it is perceived by others.

By creating a personalized care plan, our team helps optimize vocal pitch, intonation, resonance, nonverbal communication, and more. We’re here to assist in aligning your voice with your gender identity and meeting your functional voice needs without causing vocal strain or fatigue.
