Rong Jiang, Ph.D., a Genetic Epidemiologist and Biostatistician in Complex Diseases is Joining the Department

Dr. Rong Jiang, Ph.D., a genetic epidemiologist and biostatistician specializing in complex diseases, is bringing her expertise to the Department of Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences (HNS&CS).

In her new role, Dr. Jiang will delve into the genetic foundations of head and neck cancers and related disorders. Her research will be an integral part of the Duke Transdisciplinary Otolaryngology Research, Community Health and Equity (TORCHE) Program, under the umbrella of the Division of Head and Neck Surgical Oncology.

Dr. Jiang will provide support to selected clinical faculty and resident trainees within HNS&CS who lack external funding support and collaborate closely with Dr. Kristal Riska in the selection and management of 5-year Otolaryngology resident research projects.

Dr. Jiang's research is primarily centered around the investigation of genetic variations and the development of integrative omic methods for a diverse spectrum of complex diseases. Her work also explores how these genetic factors interact with environmental hazards, such as stressors and air pollution. Dr. Jiang's ultimate aim is to pinpoint genetic differentials and gain a profound understanding of the underlying biological mechanisms responsible for disease development. She hopes to pave the way for personalized and effective intervention strategies for individuals affected by these conditions.

In her new collaboration with the HNS&CS faculty, Dr. Jiang aspires to enhance our comprehension of genetic factors relevant to disease prevention, early diagnosis, and effective treatment.

Beyond her professional life, Dr. Jiang finds joy in spending quality time with her husband, Scott, and their two sons. When she's not immersed in her work, she indulges in her passion for travel, exploring diverse cultures, hiking, appreciating music, and expressing her enthusiasm for the arts.
