Harrison Jones, PhD, Receives Funding to Study Late-Onset Pompe Disease

By Duke Surgery

Dr. Harrison Jones, Division of Head and Neck Surgery and Communication Sciences, has received funding from Genzyme for his investigator-sponsored study concept “Determining the diagnostic utility of the identification of tongue involvement in late-onset Pompe disease (LOPD).”

With this award, Dr. Jones will determine whether lingual function and structure differentiates patients with untreated LOPD from patients with other acquired/hereditary myopathies and from patients in a neuropathy control group. The findings from this study may contribute to reducing diagnostic delay in LOPD so that treatment can be initiated as soon as possible.
