On Saturday, August 5th, our volunteers partnered with North Raleigh International Baptist Church (NRIBC) and Duke Raleigh Hospital to offer Head and Neck Cancer screenings. The HNS&CS team was led by Dr. Trinitia Cannon, Leda Scearce, and Dina Abouelella, joined by volunteers from the department including Dr. Tammara Watts and Dr. Kate Ciarrocca.
Dozens of families from the Cedar Creek Apartment Complex community enjoyed a day of games, education, and health screenings. Duke Raleigh Hospital led a back-to-school drive and every child in attendance was provided with a backpack full of school supplies. Later this year, Duke HNS&CS and NRIBC will launch Project CHECKERS, a collaborative community engaged head and neck cancer research project supported by the Duke Cancer Institute.
