Clinical and Research Interests
I am currently undecided regarding subspecialty training but have an interest in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. My research interests are in the public health realm; prior projects have looked at the impact of socioeconomic factors in the facial trauma population. I am also interested in quality and safety, and patient education.
What were you looking for in a residency program?
I knew I wanted my surgical residency to feel like a second family, providing support and encouragement along with well-rounded exposure to this incredible specialty. So far in training I have been blessed with amazing co-residents and a vast range of operative experience! The leadership across all levels is committed to constant improvement and excellence within the department.
What do you like best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
The food/drink scene is fantastic and constantly evolving. Local collegiate and professional sports, live music and shows. Gorgeous weather, close proximity to lakes, beach and mountains.
What do you like to do outside of Duke?
Eat delicious food, go to breweries, cheer on my Tarheels, play pickleball, read, travel. Spending time with friends and family. Long walks and Peleton classes!
What advice do you have for incoming interns?
You will learn and grow at a fast pace, give yourself grace throughout that process. Load the boat early and don't be afraid to ask questions. Enjoy your time outside of the hospital and prioritize the people and activities that bring you joy.
