Katherine Gonzalez, MD, a resident in the Otolaryngology Residency Program in the Department of Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences, received the Resident Research Award from the American Laryngological Association (ALA) at the 2026 Combined Otolaryngology Spring Meetings (COSM).
Gonzalez received the award for her project, "Evaluating Nebulizer Performance for Targeted Laryngeal Drug Delivery Using Computational Modeling," which she also presented during a podium session at the meeting.
The project was conducted under the mentorship of Amanda Frank-Ito, PhD, and Seth Chen, MD. The study uses computational modeling to quantify laryngeal airway deposition across three different nebulizer types, with the goal of better understanding and optimizing drug delivery to the upper airway.
The award will support Gonzalez's continued research and academic development in this area.
