Match Day 2023: Welcome to Our Newest Class

Our Duke Department of Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences (HNS&CS) would like to congratulate newly matched medical students who participated in the 2023 National Resident Matching Program. We are extremely excited to welcome our newest class here in Durham.

Our incoming 2023 class will include:

Otolaryngology: 5- Year Track

Eseosa Odigie from Weill Cornell

Monica Ogunsusi from University of Tennessee Health Science Center

Lauren Strickland from Wake Forest University

Otolaryngology: 7- Year Track

Ayad Ali from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine

Thank you to our current faculty and residents for all support during this recruitment season and for making our HNS&CS department #1 in North Carolina for patient care. Special Thanks to Lori Allsbrook our Residency Coordinator, Chip Woodard, our Residency Program Director, Russell Kahmke, Associate Program Director, and Brad Goldstein, PI and Program Director for the R25-funded Otolaryngology residency research track. They have guided the review of over 500 applications and the successful interview of 64 candidates. Our selection committee consisted of the following individuals who committed 4 full days to interviewing our candidates: Kristal Riska, Trinitia Cannon, Tammara Watts, Alissa Collins, David Kaylie, Steven Eliades, Nosa Osazuwa-Peters, Ralph Abi Hachem, Eileen Raynor, and Walter Lee.

Our residents were our most valuable selling point and I want to especially thank them for many hours of interaction with prospective applicants over several months, with special mention of Priya Dukes and Harry Chiang whose perspectives were greatly valued during deliberations of the selection committee. Our Duke students also did well:

Raluca Gosman is going to Miami University

Monica Bodd is going to Stanford University

Julia Canick is going to New York University

Our commitment to training the leaders of tomorrow begins with our engagement with 1st year medical students at Duke and sub-interns who rotate from other institutions. Thanks to Janet Lee’s enthusiasm and innovative approach students are discovering OHNS and are gaining access to the research, clinical and mentorship opportunities offered by our faculty.
