We are pleased to announce that Dr. Brian B. Hughley, MD, FACS, is joining our Department of Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences as a Head and Neck Oncologic and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgeon.

Dr. Hughley brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise. Prior to joining us, he was a valued faculty member at both the University of Florida and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, two high-volume head and neck cancer centers. He completed his fellowship in Head & Neck Oncologic and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Iowa in 2015 and his Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery Residency at the University of Virginia, in 2014.

With a background encompassing busy clinical practices at two prominent university hospitals, Dr. Hughley is passionately dedicated to contributing to the expansion, and advancement of our existing head and neck services, as well as resident/medical student education.

Outside of work Dr. Hughley spends most time with his wife and 8 month-old daughter, and is looking forward to exploring all that the Triangle and North Carolina have to offer. He is a former professional musician, having served in the US Air Force band program, and still enjoys playing drums in various musical styles.

We are thrilled to have him on board, and we look forward to the valuable contributions he will make to our department and patients.
