Residency Program: 5 year clinical track

College/University: Oral Roberts University

Medical School: Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine

Clinical and Research Interests

Clinically, my main interests include comprehensive otolaryngology and otology/neurotology.

Regarding research, I am interested in medical education and surgical training, looking at ways current events shape public health behaviors, and improving the quality of evidence within otolaryngology through systematic reviews and meta-research.

What were your main expectations for a residency program? What are the strengths of the Duke program?

I obviously wanted to go to a program where, after 5 years, I would be confident operating within the full scope of comprehensive otolaryngology and at the same time being set up for great research and fellowship opportunities. Duke provides this really unique balance between exceptional surgical training and incredible research opportunities. I also wanted a program where the residents genuinely like each other and enjoy coming to work each day and I found that at Duke.

What advice do you have for incoming interns?

Be where your feet are. There is much to learn and it's so easy to keep looking ahead to what's next and miss what you could be learning right now.

What do you like best about living in Durham and the Triangle?

Moving from the south/midwest my wife and I have loved being only 3 hours from the mountains and 2 hours from the beach. We try and go to one or the other whenever we can. North Carolina in general, but the Triangle specifically, is such a beautiful part of the country and has a little bit of everything. We love the countless trails, hikes and other outdoor activities.

What do you like to do outside of Duke?

Playing pickup basketball and golf, hanging out with my wife and daughter, spending time with church friends, hiking/running outdoors, watching sports.
