Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Howard Francis

Welcome to the second quarter edition of "Connections," our Departmental newsletter. This issue spotlights the tireless efforts of our faculty and residents in advancing knowledge, practice, and patient experience across all four missions to improve patient care. We emphasize community engagement, clinical innovation, compassionate care, and collaborative leadership.

Inside this publication, you'll discover Project CHECKERS, a groundbreaking community initiative addressing head and neck cancer screening and prevention. We aim to personalize care and improve outcomes in high-risk individuals with limited access to healthcare.

Learn how the Jang Research Program team developed a validated sinus symptom screening tool and explore research on dysphagia's impact on psychosocial health, potentially revolutionizing its screening and treatment.

We also celebrate the vital role of advanced practice practitioners, such as Tami Runyan, PA, in delivering specialized care with exceptional efficiency while improving access to care.

Dr. Jamila Minga's research on right-hemisphere stroke survivors and her contributions to a documentary highlighting our commitment to patient well-being and recovery.

We acknowledge our dedicated faculty's exceptional work in patient care, resident training, and research. Dr. Liana Puscas' letters of recognition express our gratitude to individual and collaborative contributions.

Our global outreach efforts, led by Rolvix "Robbie" Patterson, exemplify our commitment to improving otolaryngology care worldwide.

Join us on May 20-21, 2024, for the "Promoting Healthier Connections with the World" Global Conference, fostering collaboration with international partners to address global challenges in head and neck surgery and communication health.

We extend our best wishes for continued success and fulfillment in your endeavors.

Sincerely,
